Miguel Jelelaty Obeid
Conference Interpreter since 1999. MA (4 year programme) in Translation and Interpreting Studies at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona. I also completed a PhD programme in “Multilingual Communication” (no dissertation done) at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and a specialised course for teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the International House in Barcelona.
I worked as a Tour leader and a Language Teacher in a former life. I also taught Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona between 2006 and 2013 and I have been teaching the “Relations with the Arab World” module in the Masters’ Programme of Protocol and Institutional Relations at the Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona. I have also given various courses in interpreting techniques for the Spanish Translators Association ASETRAD, the SFT (Société française de traducteurs) and other institutions and public speaking courses for teachers and BA students at the Toulouse Business School. I am also a member of ASETRAD.
Born in Madrid of Middle Eastern parents, I grew up in Beirut, discovererd real life in Madrid, became mature in Paris and sort of settled in Barcelona. I am a Bass-baritone opera singer, I practise sports at least twice a week, I speak seven languages and my mother tongue is Northern Levantine Arabic (Lebanese dialect). I collect passports and am still looking desperately for the perfect city to retire. I have worked over 1800 days as an interpreter.
